Honda to launch new hybrid CR-V with improved efficiency
Honda is accelerating the development of its next-generation hybrid powertrain technology, with the CR-V hybrid set to be the first model to implement the new system. Production is scheduled to begin in Canada in February 2027, followed by manufacturing in the United States.
The new fifth-generation hybrid system is expected to improve fuel efficiency by more than 10% compared to current models while reducing production costs by approximately 30%. This shift comes as Honda adjusts its electrification strategy in North America, prioritizing hybrids as a transitional solution between internal combustion engines and fully electric vehicles.
The technical specifications include a 2.0L four-cylinder gasoline engine with direct injection paired with two new electric motors. Additionally, the system is expected to feature S+ Shift technology, which simulates the feel of traditional gear shifts to provide a more familiar driving experience.
