Honda to launch new hybrid platform and e-AWD technology

Honda has announced its new hybrid technology platform, branded as ‘Honda Hybrid’, which is scheduled to debut in 2027. The company plans to introduce 15 new hybrid models globally by the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2030, with initial rollouts focused on North America, India, and Japan.

A key feature of this generation is the electric all-wheel drive (e-AWD) system. Unlike conventional AWD systems that use a mechanical driveshaft, this technology utilizes a dedicated electric motor at the rear wheels—estimated at a 50 kW power class for small to medium vehicles—to manage torque distribution more precisely. This is intended to improve initial acceleration, traction on slippery surfaces, and cornering stability.

Additionally, Honda is developing a lighter, more rigid vehicle platform integrated with a ‘Motion Management System’ to enhance stability and handling. The company aims to increase fuel efficiency by more than 10 percent and reduce system costs by up to 30 percent compared to previous technologies.
