Honda to outsource new vehicle platform development to Tata

Honda is reportedly outsourcing the development of a new vehicle platform to Tata Technologies, the engineering division of the Indian automaker Tata Motors. The new architecture is expected to support a variety of powertrain options, including internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and pure-electric drivetrains.

While the specific models utilizing this platform have not been confirmed, the move suggests a focus on smaller vehicles. This is in contrast to Honda’s internal development of a mid-size platform slated for 2027, which will underpin the next-generation Civic and Acura RDX. The Tata-developed architecture may instead support models aimed at developing markets, such as the Brio, City, or Elevate, which require replacement by the end of the decade.
