Honduran Armed Forces destroy thousands of firearms and implement checkpoints

The Honduran Armed Forces have destroyed 2,138 inoperable and unrecoverable firearms, along with 37 weapon components. This three-month process was conducted at the Logistics Support Command (CALFFAA) facilities with assistance from the Organization of American States (OAS) through its Weapons and Ammunition Control Assistance Program (PACAM-OAS).

The initiative aims to prevent decommissioned weaponry from falling into the wrong hands and posing a security threat. As part of the cooperation, 64 military personnel completed specialized training in the safe disposal of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.

In a separate security effort, the military has established checkpoints at major exits from Tegucigalpa, including routes toward the north, south, east, Olancho, and Valle de Ángeles. These operations involve the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Military Public Order Police (PMOP). Personnel are inspecting buses, private vehicles, and motorcycles to search for firearms, prohibited substances, and other illicit items. Authorities also stated they are checking for tattoos associated with terrorist organizations, noting that individuals with such markings will be detained and referred to competent authorities.
