Medical strikes launched in Dominican Republic and Argentina

Medical professionals in the Dominican Republic and Argentina have launched significant labor actions. In the Dominican Republic, the Colegio Médico Dominicano (CMD) initiated a 24-hour nationwide strike on Tuesday, October 13. The protest targets unresolved agreements, insufficient seniority and distance incentives, hospital security deficiencies, and staffing shortages. While elective surgeries and routine consultations are suspended, emergency and intensive care services remain operational.

In Argentina, the Asociación de Profesionales del Programa de Atención Médica Integral (APPAMIA) has called for a 96-hour strike from October 13 to October 16. PAMI doctors and dentists are protesting against outdated per capita payments, which they claim have failed to keep pace with the cost of living. Doctors are requesting an increase from $2,700 to $4,500 per patient, while dentists seek an increase from $374 to between $1,500 and $3,000. The strike will suspend routine appointments and specialist referrals, though emergency services will continue.

Separately, in Honduras, the Ministry of Health is working to resolve salary arrears for approximately 278 doctors following recent informative assemblies by the Colegio Médico de Honduras.
