Honduran Ex‑Joint Chiefs Chief Roosevelt Hernández Accused of Electoral Crimes

Independent lawyer Tomás Gerardo Aceituno has filed a formal criminal complaint with the Honduran Public Ministry against former Joint Chiefs of Staff head Roosevelt Hernández Aguilar. The complaint alleges that Hernández exceeded his constitutional authority, threatened the constitutional order by allegedly brandishing his weapon during a 30 October 2024 meeting at the Honduran Air Force, and was involved in activities that could constitute electoral crimes. Aceituno cites Hernández’s public support for the proposed Tax Justice Law and reports of abandoned ballot boxes in the Central District and Cortés during the 9 March primary elections, suggesting possible misconduct in the military’s handling of electoral materials. The Ministry of Public must now assess whether the allegations merit criminal prosecution.
