Honduras medical union disputes salary arrears with Health Ministry
The Colegio Médico de Honduras (CMH) is engaged in a dispute with the Ministry of Health over unpaid salaries. The CMH reports that 727 medical professionals have outstanding wage obligations, with significant delays affecting internal doctors, temporary staff, and permanent employees. The union claims these arrears include unpaid wages from recent months, biennial benefits, and cost-of-living adjustments.
In contrast, the Ministry of Health maintains that the issue is administrative rather than budgetary, asserting that over 95% of doctors have been paid. The Ministry estimates the number of affected professionals is between 200 and 370.
The CMH has maintained informative assemblies for over 45 days as a form of protest. The union has proposed the installation of an expanded technical committee—including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Civil Service, and the Ministry of Labor—to resolve individual cases. While the government has expressed a commitment to resolving the conflict, no formal agreement has been reached to suspend the ongoing labor actions.
