Honduran medical union demands unpaid wages for 1,315 doctors

The Medical College of Honduras (CMH) is demanding the immediate payment of overdue salaries to 1,315 doctors. While the union has agreed to attend a meeting called by the Secretariat of Health (Sesal) this Friday, they maintain that the primary issue remains the unpaid wages affecting professionals under various contract types, including interim and permanent appointments.

CMH President Samuel Santos warned that if payments are not settled during September, some medical professionals could face up to nine months without remuneration. The union noted that despite multiple government commitments since February to issue payments in March and May, these agreements have not been honored.

As part of their ongoing pressure tactics, doctors have held informative assemblies for five consecutive days, limiting their services strictly to emergency care. The CMH also questioned the absence of the presidential mediation commission, led by Private Secretary Luis Castro, in the current discussions.
