Honduran migrants launch new mass caravans toward Mexico
New migrant caravans consisting of hundreds of Hondurans have begun traveling toward the Mexican border, driven by poverty, hunger, and lack of employment opportunities. In San Pedro Sula, groups ranging from 300 to over 1,500 people, including families and children, have departed via buses or on foot toward the Guatemalan borders of Corinto and Agua Caliente.
A second major exodus, self-named the ‘Sin Fronteras’ caravan, consisting of approximately 200 individuals, has already entered Mexico through the Suchiate municipality. This group is traveling toward Tapachula, following a similar route to a previous group that arrived in late September.
In Honduras, political tensions have emerged as the National Party accuses the ruling Libre party of orchestrating these movements to damage President Nasry Asfura’s image. However, migrants at departure points deny political manipulation, citing economic desperation. Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy has warned that irregular entry attempts often result in arrest or deportation, and Honduran police officials have raised concerns regarding potential gang infiltration within these large groups.
