Honduran mototaxi operators propose fare increase to 25 lempiras
Representatives of the mototaxi sector in Honduras have submitted a proposal to the Honduran Institute of Land Transport (IHTT) to increase urban fares from 20 to 25 lempiras per trip.
Marvin Chinchilla, president of the Association of Mototaxis of Honduras, stated that the current rates are insufficient to cover rising operational costs, specifically citing the increased prices of fuel, petroleum derivatives, and vehicle spare parts. The association argues that the 5-lempira increase is necessary to maintain vehicles and support the economic needs of drivers' families.
The adjustment has not yet been authorized. Negotiations between sector representatives and IHTT authorities are ongoing to find a balance that addresses operational costs without placing an excessive burden on passengers. Until an official authorization is issued, the proposed rate remains a request and is not currently in effect.
