Honduran Naval Force begins recovery of LANHSA aircraft off Roatán
The Honduran Naval Force has begun an operation to recover the wreckage of a LANHSA Jetstream 3200 aircraft from the seabed off the coast of Roatán, Bay Islands. The recovery mission, which is scheduled to continue until September 7, follows the crash of flight LNH-018 on March 17, 2025.
The accident occurred shortly after takeoff from Juan Manuel Gálvez Airport en route to La Ceiba, resulting in the deaths of 12 of the 17 people on board, including the prominent Garifuna musician Aurelio Martínez.
Recovering the aircraft is considered critical for the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash. Authorities aim to retrieve technical components, such as engines, propellers, and the cockpit voice recorder, to provide evidence that may clarify the circumstances leading up to the impact, as the provisional report from the CIAIA has not yet established a definitive cause.
