Honduran utility ENEE raises over 3.6 bn lempiras through new bond issuances

The state-owned electricity company ENEE conducted two consecutive bond auctions in May, issuing sovereign bonds worth 2.2 bn lempiras and a second tranche of 1.484 bn lempiras. The first auction was held on May 19 and 26, while the second took place on May 26, with the bonds offered at rates between 10.91% and 12.65% for maturities of five to ten years.

Proceeds are intended to improve ENEE’s liquidity, meet pending obligations to energy generators and suppliers, and address short‑term financing needs. Analysts note that while the issuances provide immediate cash, they do not solve the utility’s deeper structural financial challenges.
