Hondurans targeted by Russian military recruitment on Facebook

Recruiters are using Facebook to target Hondurans with offers to join the Russian military forces participating in the war against Ukraine. An investigation by ICN Investiga identified a Facebook page titled “Incorporaciones Rusia- Departamento de Habla Hispana” that facilitates contact via WhatsApp with recruiters in Russia.

The recruitment offers include significant financial incentives, such as a monthly salary of approximately US$2,700, an initial signing bonus of US$12,000, and potential performance bonuses of up to US$30,000. The packages reportedly cover airfare, housing, food, and visa processing.

According to the investigation, military experience is not a mandatory requirement for applicants. Civilians who are accepted would undergo approximately six weeks of training before being deployed to infantry units. Requirements for candidates include being between 18 and 60 years old, possessing a valid passport, and providing negative medical tests for HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and tuberculosis.
