Honduras adopts agricultural finance and agroindustrial protection laws

The Honduran Congress approved the Ley de Alivio Financiero al Productor del Agro, a measure that will let farmers refinance debt for up to 15 years and receive subsidies covering up to 80% of agro‑insurance premiums. The law allocates 100 million lempiras for the insurance subsidy and includes provisions for technical assistance, market access and irrigation investment.

Separately, the director of the National Agrarian Institute (INA) endorsed the Ley de Fortalecimiento al Sector Agroindustrial, describing it as essential for protecting domestic production, securing property rights and attracting investment. The law strengthens existing legal tools to prevent illegal land occupation and supports agro‑industry, tourism and producers of all scales.

Both statutes aim to improve credit conditions, reduce risks from climate events and bolster confidence among investors and producers in Honduras' agricultural sector.
