Honduras advances funds to 75 municipalities facing drought

The Honduran government will advance third-quarter transfers to 75 municipalities to combat the severe impacts of drought. Finance Minister Emilio Hernández announced a fiscal effort exceeding 1,100 million lempiras to provide immediate liquidity to local governments.

The decision follows a request from the Association of Municipalities of Honduras (Amhon). According to Amhon president Juan Carlos Molina, 75 municipalities are under critical surveillance due to severe drought, with an additional 16 municipalities currently being considered for prioritization.

The disbursement will be made in a single payment covering July, August, and September. The government intends to prioritize smaller municipalities in categories C and D, which have lower populations and limited local revenue, before proceeding to categories B and A.
