Honduras approves Honduras Cuídate preventive health program
The National Congress of Honduras has approved the creation of the National Program for Preventive Health, Nutrition, and Community Physical Activation, known as ‘Honduras Cuídate’. The initiative aims to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.
The Secretariat of Health (Sesal) will lead the program, coordinating with the Secretariat of Education, the Secretariat of Social Development, the National Commission of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (Condepor), and 298 municipalities. A central component involves the gradual establishment of ‘Cuídate’ Nutritional and Wellness Clinics within public primary care centers across all 18 departments. These clinics will provide free services, including nutritional assessments, obesity diagnosis, and personalized meal plans using accessible local products.
Additionally, the program focuses on physical activity by encouraging municipalities to maintain and expand public spaces for sports and recreation. It also includes educational campaigns through schools, state media, and social networks to promote nutrition and exercise routines.
