Honduras arrests suspected member of Óscar Bonilla drug cartel

Honduran authorities have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of being a member of the criminal organization linked to former footballer Óscar ‘Pescado’ Bonilla. The suspect was apprehended by the National Police in Puerto Lempira, Gracias a Dios, on an outstanding warrant for aggravated drug trafficking issued in September 2023.

Investigations suggest the individual is associated with ‘Los Halcones,’ a drug trafficking structure identified by the Public Ministry. The group reportedly utilized strategic points in La Mosquitia to receive cocaine shipments from South America, which were then moved by sea toward Atlántida and Cortés before being transported by land to the western part of the country. The detainee was transported to Tegucigalpa via helicopter to face judicial proceedings.
