Honduran law enforcement criminal arrests
Overview
Honduran authorities have conducted several high-profile arrests involving drug trafficking and violent crimes.
In early September, National Police apprehended a 51-year-old suspect in Puerto Lempira linked to the ‘Los Halcones’ structure, an organization associated with former footballer Óscar ‘Pescado’ Bonilla. The individual was wanted on a 2023 warrant for aggravated drug trafficking. Investigations indicated the group used La Mosquitia to receive cocaine shipments from South America for transport across the country.
Later in the month, as part of the ‘Escudo de Honduras’ operation, police coordinated with Interpol to arrest three Honduran citizens arriving from the United States at Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport. The detainees faced charges including murder, attempted homicide, and drug trafficking. One individual was subject to an Interpol red notice regarding a 2011 killing, while others were held for complicity in a 2012 shooting and outstanding drug trafficking requirements.
