Honduras arrests three returnees from U.S. for murder and drug crimes

Three Honduran citizens were arrested at the Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport in La Lima, Cortés, upon arriving on a return flight from the United States. The arrests were conducted by the National Police, in coordination with Interpol and the Dirección Policial de Investigaciones (DPI), as part of the ‘Escudo de Honduras’ operation.

The detainees face various criminal charges:

One 38-year-old man was subject to an Interpol red notice and a local arrest warrant for murder issued by the Tegucigalpa Sentencing Court. He is linked to the 2011 killing of Elvin Ariel Sánchez, during which suspects allegedly restrained the victim while another attacked him with a machete.

A 40-year-old man was detained for complicity in homicide and attempted homicide related to a 2012 shooting in Juticalpa, Olancho, which resulted in one death and one injury.

A 56-year-old man was apprehended for outstanding judicial requirements regarding drug trafficking.

All three individuals have been transferred to the appropriate courts to face their respective legal proceedings.
