Honduras faces week of rain and thunderstorms as tropical waves move inland

The Centro Nacional de Estudios Atmosféricos, Oceanográficos y Sísmicos (Cenaos) warned that Honduras will experience rain and showers across most of the country this week as a series of tropical waves, a surface trough and moisture from the Caribbean combine. The forecast, given by meteorologist Jairo García, calls for the remnants of a tropical wave to bring rain to the northwest and north on Monday, with dry conditions expected on Tuesday except for isolated light showers in the east and north.

Wednesday will see weak rain and thunderstorms, especially in the north, west and east, with up to 20 mm expected in the departments of Cortés, Atlántida, Colón and Yoro. Thursday and Friday the surface trough should increase precipitation nationwide, again favoring the western and northern regions. Saturday is projected to bring the "very favorable" rain conditions across most of the country, while Sunday will feature light showers in the east, central and western zones. The agency also noted low‑level Saharan dust remaining aloft and advised the public to stay updated with official forecasts.
