Honduras Congress increases legislative activity in 2026

The National Congress of Honduras saw an increase in legislative activity and deputy attendance during the first half of 2026, according to a report by the Association for a More Just Society (ASJ). Between January 25 and June 30, 2026, the Congress presented 926 bill projects, of which 140 were approved, representing a 15% success rate, while 786 remained pending.

Despite the increased productivity, the ASJ noted that these advancements have not yet addressed the country's primary structural problems. The organization emphasized that legislative performance should be measured by the quality and impact of decisions on the population rather than just the quantity of initiatives.

During this period, the Congress held 62 sessions with an average duration of 3.7 hours, and deputy attendance averaged 98.9%. The report also documented approximately 713,000 lempiras in salary deductions applied to 48 deputies who failed to attend sessions without valid justification. The infrastructure and transport sector accounted for the highest number of approved projects.
