Honduras dengue surge hits Central District, adolescents most vulnerable
Honduras' health authorities have recorded 5,064 classic dengue cases and 89 severe cases nationwide, with three deaths reported this year. The Central District accounts for 1,184 cases, representing 24% of the national total, making it the primary focus of transmission. Doctors note that adolescents and young adults are the most affected groups.
The Ministry of Health urges the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, store water properly, keep containers covered, clean gutters, use repellents, and complete vaccination schedules for preventable diseases such as measles and pertussis, which have also seen recent increases.
