Honduras extends Green Alert for multiple departments due to rain
Honduras' National Emergency Management Agency (Copeco) has extended a Green Alert for several regions due to unstable atmospheric conditions. The alert, effective for 36 hours starting Wednesday evening, covers the departments of Lempira, Comayagua, Intibucá, Yoro, La Paz, Cortés, Santa Bárbara, Choluteca, and Valle.
The measure also includes the entire department of Francisco Morazán and the Central District. In the Central District, the alert level was actually downgraded from Yellow to Green as immediate risks moderated, though authorities continue to warn of potential flash floods, landslides, and falling trees.
The National Center for Atmospheric, Oceanographic, and Seismic Studies (Cenaos) attributes the weather to a surface trough interacting with moisture from both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. This interaction is expected to produce widespread clouds and weak to moderate showers accompanied by isolated electrical activity, with the highest rainfall accumulations predicted for the western, central, and southern regions of the country.
