Honduras health officials push pertussis vaccination amid infant deaths

The Honduran Ministry of Health reported 122 confirmed pertussis cases and ten deaths this year, most of them infants under three months. Officials said seven newborns under 30 days and three three‑month‑old babies died, stressing that the fatalities are preventable with timely vaccination. The health secretariat urged stronger immunisation of pregnant women and newborns, highlighting the effectiveness of maternal vaccination in the final trimester.

President Nasry Asfura inaugurated a national vaccination and deworming day, calling on families to attend centres across the country. He asked citizens to place confidence in the health system and promised continued efforts to improve preventive care, noting that the full impact of the programme will be visible in the coming months.
