Honduras reports $2.285 billion in coffee exports amid agricultural shifts

Honduras is seeing significant developments across its agricultural and municipal sectors. The coffee harvest for 2025-2026 has concluded with preliminary exports exceeding 7.3 million bags, generating approximately $2.285 billion in foreign exchange. Major importers include the United States and Germany.

In response to severe drought conditions, particularly in Choluteca where cattle ranchers have been forced to sell up to 40% of their herds due to lack of water and feed, the Association of Municipalities of Honduras (AMHON) is proposing a partnership with the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG). This initiative aims to construct water harvesters to mitigate future shortages.

Additionally, the country has been officially declared free of Avian Influenza following a successful three-month containment period, allowing for the reopening of poultry exports to neighboring El Salvador and Costa Rica. In terms of public services, AMHON, supported by the Republic of Korea, has delivered three ambulances to various municipalities to strengthen emergency medical care.
