Honduras implements georeferencing strategy for coffee exports

Honduran authorities have launched the National Coffee Parcel Georeferencing Strategy to ensure the country's coffee can continue to be exported to the European market. This initiative aims to comply with European Union regulations regarding deforestation prevention.

To implement this, the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE), and the Forest Conservation Institute (ICF) signed a technical cooperation agreement. The goal is to generate reliable geospatial information and technical data for coffee farms and plots across the country.

José Francisco Ordóñez, the Undersecretary of Coffee Culture, stated that the effort aims to georeference more than 400,000 manzanas of coffee, benefiting over 120,000 producers. The technical work will be conducted using a mobile platform and application managed by IHCAFE. Following this process, authorities plan to extend similar georeferencing efforts to the palm and cocoa sectors to ensure regulatory compliance.
