Honduras joins Alliance for Primary Health Care in the Americas

Honduras has joined the Alliance for Primary Health Care in the Americas, becoming the twelfth country in the region to participate in the initiative. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) praised the Honduran government for prioritizing primary health care as a national objective.

The alliance, driven by PAHO, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the World Bank, aims to coordinate technical cooperation, financing, and investments tailored to individual national priorities. PAHO Director Jarbas Barbosa da Silva Jr. noted that Honduras's strategy focuses on bringing healthcare closer to local communities and territories.

Key national priorities identified include a roadmap for disease elimination, progress in reducing maternal mortality, and integrated strategies for the prevention and control of arboviral diseases. The World Bank highlighted concrete actions already underway, such as the hiring of 330 vaccinators, the digital transformation of the health system, and planned rehabilitations for over 30 maternity clinics, regional laboratories, and vaccine warehouses.
