Honduras launches 12‑million‑lempira livestock support pilot

The Honduran government announced the launch of a four‑year pilot program to support the livestock sector with an initial investment of 12 million lempiras. The scheme is part of a broader 100‑million‑lempira incentive program and aims to assist about 3,000 small and medium‑scale cattle producers in the departments of Colón, Atlántida, Olancho, El Paraíso, Choluteca, Francisco Morazán, Comayagua, Yoro and Valle.

Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock Moisés Abraham Molina said the funding could be increased to up to 50 million lempiras depending on execution capacity. Implementation will be carried out by Heifer International, whose director Marco Machado highlighted the use of proven techniques for herd management, nutrition and genetic improvement. The program also coordinates with local agencies such as Copeco and the World Food Programme to address needs in municipalities like Soledad and San Antonio de Flores.
