Honduras launches biometric enrollment for 2.3 million minors

The National Registry of Persons (RNP) in Honduras has launched the socialization phase of the ‘Identifícate, Crece con Derechos’ program. This initiative aims to conduct biometric enrollment for approximately 2.3 million children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 nationwide.

Supported by a $40 million loan from the World Bank and technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the project will issue a new Document of Identification for Girls, Boys, and Adolescents (DINNA). The program is being coordinated with the Secretariat of Education to facilitate enrollment within schools and educational centers.

To prepare for the rollout, more than 130 personnel have already received technical and operational training covering equipment handling, security protocols, and ethical principles. The deployment will begin in major cities before expanding progressively to more remote areas. The initiative seeks to reduce identification gaps, facilitate access to public services like health and education, and strengthen protections against risks such as human trafficking.
