National identification and electoral preparations in Latin-

In Honduras, the National Registry of Persons (RNP) has expanded its efforts to provide national identification to minors. Initial efforts focused on enrolling approximately 100,000 children and adolescents through mobile brigades in schools to facilitate legal and travel procedures. This has since evolved into the ‘Identifícate, Crece con Derechos’ program, a $40 million World Bank-funded initiative supported by the UNDP. The program aims to conduct biometric enrollment for approximately 2.3 million children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 to issue a new Document of Identification for Girls, Boys, and Adolescents (DINNA).

In Peru, authorities are preparing for the Regional and Municipal Elections scheduled for October 4, 2026. The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) is registering over 800,000 polling station members, while the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) is providing free electronic identity documents to vulnerable populations. To maintain electoral integrity, Reniec has also taken steps to prevent ‘voter migration’ by annulling address changes in certain districts.
