Honduras measles outbreak climbs to 12 confirmed cases

Honduran health authorities have confirmed a total of twelve measles infections, up from eleven the previous day. The latest case involves a six‑month‑old infant, and the outbreak is centred in the Cofradía neighbourhood of San Pedro Sula, where a school‑linked transmission has been identified. Five of the cases stem from local spread, while several belong to a single family cluster.

The Secretariat of Health has stepped up epidemiological surveillance, conducted active case finding, and launched mass vaccination campaigns that have immunised more than a thousand people, including over 700 children under 18 months. Officials warned that unvaccinated populations risk a larger epidemic and urged parents to ensure their children are fully immunised. The Ministry also highlighted the risk of cross‑border transmission from an ongoing measles outbreak in neighbouring Guatemala.
