Honduras medical strike enters third week amid hospital construction updates

The Medical College of Honduras (CMH) is entering its third week of national protests and informative assemblies. The medical union is demanding the cessation of layoffs, the reinstatement of doctors, the signing of pending contracts, and the payment of overdue salaries. Additionally, the CMH is seeking salary adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), increased base salaries for residents, and the allocation of 12% of the General Budget of the Republic to public health.

While the CMH continues its actions across various healthcare centers, the Ministry of Health is moving forward with infrastructure projects. The Ministry expects to receive bids in September 2026 for the construction of a 120-bed trauma hospital in San Pedro Sula, a project funded by a 2.5 billion lempira loan from the Inter-American Development Bank. Meanwhile, the development of a similar trauma hospital in Tegucigalpa remains in the planning and review stage.
