Honduras is facing a severe drought crisis driven by a strong El Niño event, prompting the National Management of Risks and Contingencies (Copeco) to expand red alerts to 103 municipalities. This emergency, which remains in effect indefinitely, affects approximately 78% of the country's territory, with 233 municipalities under various levels of alert.

Scientific analysis from CENAOS indicates that rainfall deficits of 100 to 200 millimeters have compromised water supplies for human and animal consumption, as well as agricultural and livestock production. The situation is particularly critical in the Corredor Seco and central regions.

In response, President Nasry Asfura announced that the government is preparing up to 100,000 food sacks through Banasupro to assist affected families. Additionally, the United Nations has allocated an extra US$20 million to support the climate emergency. Authorities are also implementing measures such as well drilling, reservoir construction, and strict monitoring of water prices to prevent speculation.
