Honduras power cuts cause widespread outages and monthly losses of 100 million lempiras

The state utility ENEE scheduled maintenance on July 8, triggering planned power interruptions across numerous towns and neighborhoods in the Olancho, Yoro, Colón, Atlántida and other departments of Honduras. The cuts, lasting between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (or later in some areas), affect residential, commercial and public facilities.

According to the Honduran Private Business Council (Cohep), the unsupplied electricity amounts to roughly 21,200 hours per year and inflicts monthly losses of about 100 million lempiras on the private sector—over 1.2 billion lempiras annually. Businesses cite damaged equipment, halted production and the cost of purchasing generators. The sector urges swift approval of electricity‑sub‑sector reforms to improve transmission, distribution and overall system reliability.
