Honduras reports significant export revenues from coffee and cardamom
Honduras' agricultural sector reports significant revenue from key export crops. The coffee industry concluded the 2025-2026 harvest season with US$2.285 billion in foreign exchange, following the export of 7.3 million 46-kilogram bags. Comayagua was identified as the leading department in production, while La Unión, Copán, recorded the highest productivity.
In addition to coffee, cardamom has emerged as a growing export crop for the country. With an estimated annual production of 80,000 quintals, approximately 54,000 quintals are destined for international markets, generating over US$16 million in annual foreign exchange. The cardamom sector involves more than 2,000 producers, primarily located in the departments of Santa Bárbara, Cortés, and Atlántida.
To support these sectors, authorities are focusing on improving yields and quality. The National Program for Agricultural and Food Development (Pronagro) has initiated training sessions for cardamom producers regarding seed establishment and sanitary management. Meanwhile, the National Coffee Fund (FCN) has invested L243.7 million to improve over 10,468 kilometers of the coffee road network across 15 departments.
