Honduras restores medical services after doctors' strike settlement

The Honduran government and the Colegio Médico de Honduras (CMH) reached an agreement that ended a ten‑day doctors' protest over unpaid wages. The settlement suspended the nationwide informational assemblies and allowed the resumption of outpatient services in public health centers, including the Instituto Hondureño de Seguridad Social (IHSS).

Key provisions include a uniform base salary of 36,000 lempiras for general physicians and 44,000 lempiras for specialists, to be applied from June, the reinstatement of 48 doctors dismissed from the Ministry of Health, and a review of dismissals within the 911 emergency system. Patients began returning to clinics, expressing relief – one said, “Thanks to God they are attending now” – but reported ongoing issues such as shortages of medical reagents, medication stock‑outs, and long waits for specialist appointments.
