Honduras seeks $60 million to address drought emergency

Honduras has launched a Flash Appeal requesting $60 million in humanitarian assistance to support approximately 538,000 people affected by drought linked to the El Niño phenomenon. National Congress President Tomás Zambrano participated in a socialization session with the Association of Municipalities of Honduras (Amhon) to coordinate response actions.

The drought has impacted at least 103 municipalities, where many producers have been unable to plant crops or have lost existing harvests. This situation poses a significant threat to food security for families reliant on agriculture. Coordination is currently underway between local municipalities, government institutions like Copeco and the Secretariat of Social Development (Sedesol), and international cooperation organizations to manage the emergency and prepare for future climate events.
