Honduras seeks new IMF agreement during Washington meetings
A delegation from the Honduran Economic Cabinet, including the President of the Central Bank and the Commissioner of the Office of Foreign Trade, will travel to Washington next week for strategic meetings with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The goal is to pursue a new three-year agreement for the 2027-2029 period. Discussions will also address Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) programs and funds for 2027.
Economic indicators for Honduras have shown improvement, specifically regarding the country's risk profile. Mario Palma of the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (Cohep) noted that the management of international reserves, economic policy decisions, and Honduras's return to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID/CIADI) have bolstered investor confidence. The primary challenge remains addressing structural issues to ensure these economic improvements translate into increased private investment and better living standards for citizens.
