Honduras-IMF economic cooperation

Overview

Honduras is engaging in strategic discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to manage its current economic program and secure future cooperation. Initially, a Honduran delegation planned to travel to Washington to pursue a new three-year agreement for the 2027–2029 period, following improvements in the country’s risk profile and investor confidence.

Subsequently, the Honduran Ministry of Finance announced that an IMF technical mission, led by Nigel Chalk, will visit the country between late October and early November. This sixth review of the existing economic program will evaluate public finances, debt sustainability, and structural reforms, such as those in the energy sector. The government aims to complete this review to access remaining resources under the current agreement while simultaneously initiating talks for a new economic cooperation framework focused on fiscal responsibility and growth.
