Honduras to provide water to 103 schools in Dry Corridor

The administration of President Nasry Asfura will implement a program to provide water access to 103 schools located in municipalities within the Dry Corridor of Honduras. The initiative is funded by the United States Humanitarian Fund, meaning the Honduran state will not use its own resources for the project.

Reinaldo Sánchez, head of the Permanent Contingency Commission (Copeco), announced that the project is already structured and will be officially launched after the Morazanic Week. The plan ensures that at least one educational center in each of the 103 selected municipalities will benefit. The program includes rainwater harvesting systems and water treatment to meet basic student needs and improve hygiene to prevent stomach-related illnesses.

The initiative responds to a drought emergency decree linked to the El Niño phenomenon, which has placed 103 municipalities under red alert.
