Hong Joon-pyo warns People Power Party of potential dissolution

Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo has warned the People Power Party to prepare for potential party dissolution. Speaking on MBN, Hong suggested that if former Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho is convicted of involvement in an insurrection, the party could be labeled an insurrectionist organization, potentially leading the Lee Jae-myung administration to initiate dissolution proceedings.

Regarding domestic leadership, Hong urged President Lee Jae-myung to pursue national unity and act as a president for all citizens, rather than focusing solely on his support base.

On foreign policy, Hong expressed skepticism toward U.S. President Donald Trump, characterizing his interest in North Korea-U.S. dialogue as a “disguised peace show” intended to influence midterm elections. He described the goal of North Korean denuclearization as “close to a delusion,” arguing that because North Korea already possesses significant nuclear capabilities, South Korea must develop policies that realistically account for a nuclearized North Korea.

Finally, Hong stated that South Korea’s participation in a multinational coalition to ensure freedom in the Strait of Hormuz is inevitable.
