Hong Kong advances tech innovation through new five-year plan and university partnerships

Hong Kong is preparing to release its first five-year development plan, which aims to align with China’s ‘15th Five-Year Plan’ by prioritizing technological innovation and new quality productive forces. The strategy includes expanding scientific research land use by fourfold over the next decade through developments like the Northern Metropolis and San Tin Technopole. This expansion is expected to increase the demand for research personnel from 50,000 to 200,000.

In support of these regional innovation goals, the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has signed a cooperation agreement with the global entrepreneurship platform HICOOL at the HICOOL Global Entrepreneur Summit in Beijing. The partnership aims to deepen the innovation ecosystems of Beijing and Hong Kong by accelerating the commercialization of scientific research. CityU showcased ten startups from its HK Tech 300 program, covering sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and life sciences, to facilitate market connection and industrial application.
