Hong Kong technological and scientific research development

Hong Kong is advancing its technological and scientific research capabilities through institutional strategic planning and industry-university collaborations.

Local universities have initiated long-term development goals. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) launched its ‘CUHK 2026–2030: Leaping to Greatness’ strategic plan, which focuses on talent attraction, global engagement, and frontier research in fields such as artificial intelligence and quantum science. Additionally, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has commercialized wireless power transfer research contributing to international charging standards.

On a regional level, Hong Kong is preparing a five-year development plan intended to align with China’s ‘15th Five-Year Plan’. This strategy emphasizes technological innovation and the expansion of scientific research land use through projects like the San Tin Technopole. To support these goals, CityU has partnered with the HICOOL entrepreneurship platform to accelerate the commercialization of research and connect startups in sectors like semiconductors and life sciences to the market.
