Hong Kong authorities seize 5.4kg of cocaine at airport
Hong Kong authorities have detained a 30-year-old man from mainland China after discovering 5.4 kilograms of cocaine at the airport. The drugs, valued at approximately 3.3 million Hong Kong dollars, were found hidden inside chocolate powder packages within the passenger's carry-on luggage. The individual had arrived from São Paulo, Brazil, via Istanbul, Turkey.
This incident follows a series of similar drug seizures at the airport involving shipments from Brazil. In recent months, authorities have intercepted several cases, including a passenger with nearly three kilograms of cocaine and another with 3.4 kilograms hidden inside statues. Hong Kong Customs stated they will continue to apply risk assessment approaches to focus on passengers from high-risk regions.
