Cocaine smuggling incidents at Hong Kong airport

Overview

Hong Kong authorities have intercepted multiple cocaine shipments at the international airport involving different transit routes and methods.

In one instance, a 30-year-old man from mainland China was detained after 5.4 kilograms of cocaine, valued at approximately 3.3 million Hong Kong dollars, were found hidden in chocolate powder packages within carry-on luggage. The passenger had traveled from São Paulo, Brazil, via Istanbul, Turkey.

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old Chinese man was detained with two kilograms of suspected cocaine discovered in his checked luggage. This individual arrived from Penang, Malaysia. Preliminary investigations by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department suggest the suspect obtained the drugs at a supermarket in Penang for a promised reward of RMB 2,000. Malaysian authorities are currently coordinating with Hong Kong officials to identify the involved trafficking syndicate.
