Hong Kong police arrest 16 youths in crime crackdown

Hong Kong police have arrested 16 individuals, including 11 youths aged between 13 and 21, during a multi-day crime prevention operation dubbed ‘Operation Ploughing the Field’ in the New Territories South district. The arrests involve various charges, including possession of dangerous drugs, offensive weapons, and disorderly conduct in a public place.

As part of the crackdown on juvenile delinquency during the summer holidays, authorities investigated recent incidents of youth gangs harassing merchants at Kwai Chung Plaza. This led to the arrest of two secondary school students. Additionally, police in the Tsuen Wan district arrested several minors for theft and assault, including a 13-year-old boy involved in a group theft of food and toys.

During inspections of youth gathering spots, officers also seized suspected etomidate e-cigarettes and nicotine products. All arrested youths have been released on bail pending further investigation.
