Hong Kong Police Crackdown Dismantles Triad Debt Collection Ring, Arrests 57

In July, Hong Kong police launched a targeted operation against a triad‑controlled illegal debt‑collection network operating across the city. The raid, centred in the Shum Mei Ping district, resulted in the arrest of 57 individuals aged 14 to 70, including a 14‑year‑old boy found carrying a bottle of red oil and an iron lotus used for intimidation. Police uncovered a pattern of younger members being recruited as collectors and recruiters. The operation also dismantled a prostitution venue, a drug den and three illegal gambling sites, seizing cocaine, methamphetamine, cash of about HK$4 0000, gambling machines and chips, with estimated monthly earnings of the illegal venues reaching HK$1 million.

A separate police action on 31 July in Tsuen Wan targeted a suspected prostitution premises on Chuan Long Street. Officers seized massage beds, sheets, large quantities of condoms, lubricants and massage oil, and arrested five people – one local man and four women, including a mainland Chinese woman on a double‑entry permit. The suspects face charges for managing a prostitution venue and related offences.
