Hong Kong privacy watchdog probes 24/7 Fitness over pinhole cameras

Hong Kong’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) has launched a compliance probe into the gym chain 24/7 Fitness. The investigation follows the discovery of pinhole cameras mounted on a ceiling in a changing room at the company’s Sha Tin branch in Lek Yuen Estate.

A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with voyeurism in connection with the incident. The PCPD is reviewing the company’s security measures to determine if they are sufficient to protect members' personal data privacy and prevent similar occurrences.

In response, 24/7 Fitness stated it has implemented new procedures and increased inspections of showers, changing rooms, and restrooms across its more than 160 locations. The company also suspended the suspect’s membership and is cooperating with police investigations.
