Sha Tin fitness center voyeurism investigation

Overview

Police in Sha Tin, Hong Kong, launched an investigation into a voyeurism case after members discovered pinhole cameras hidden in the false ceiling of shower areas at a 24/7 Fitness branch. Investigators confirmed that three cameras were found in three of the four changing rooms, reportedly connected to the electrical wiring of the ceiling lights.

Following the discovery, a 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with voyeurism. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) has since initiated a compliance probe to review the gym chain’s security measures and determine if they adequately protect members' privacy.

In response to the incident, 24/7 Fitness stated it has implemented new procedures and increased inspections of showers, changing rooms, and restrooms across its more than 160 locations.
