Hong Kong regulators increase scrutiny of investment banks and IPOs
Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has provided guidance to investment banks regarding cooperation during regulatory raids, signaling intensified scrutiny of the region's booming share sales.
During an industry meeting in August, SFC enforcement officials instructed firms to prepare staff for search warrants, including designating private areas for search teams and ensuring immediate access to employee emails and computer systems. Representatives from approximately 10 brokers were also advised to launch internal investigations if a raid is leaked to the media.
Regulators are emphasizing the importance of quality issuers in IPOs and other share sales. Sources indicate that the SFC is concerned that pursuing high deal volumes may erode the gatekeeping responsibilities of sponsors. There have been approximately eight raids on brokerages or funds by Hong Kong regulators in 2026.
